ومن هنا جاءت أهمية تاج العروس ؛ ففيه كل ما يبتغيه العلماء ، والمحققون ، والباحثون ، والمتقصون ، وحسبهم أن ينظروا في هذا المعجم الذي أعددناه لهم خدمة للعلم ، ليجدوا ضالتهم موثقة ، مضبوطة ، دقيقة ، ممنهجة ، مشكولة . على أنه كان يركز غالباً على حملة الحديث ، وإن لم يكونوا منهم ، أو كانوا من الماجنين ، ويشير إلى المحدثين الثقات والكاذبين ضمن ذكره لأعلام الرجال ، متخذاً الرواية دلالة التوثيق .
