يتضمن عنوان هذا الكتاب محورين أساسيين: أوّلهما هو "مظاهر الإلتباس في العربية" والثاني هو "تأويل هذه المظاهر"، وسيؤخذ مفهوم التأويل - طيلة البحث - على أنه يعني "التحليل"، ويمكن صياغته في شكل سؤال هو: كيف يتوصّل المستعمل العادي للعربية إلى تحليل التعبير الملتبس إلى مختلف قراءاته؟.
ويفترض أن هذه الأشكال هو إشكال واقعي يجد له ما يبرّره في المعطيات اليومية لإستعمالات لساننا، لذلك سنبتعد - قدر الإمكان - عن التناول المتعالي لهذا الموضوع وكأنه حبيس المعاجم والمصنفات النحوية المكتوبة، بل المرجح أن يكون المخزون المعجمي نفسه وأن يكون المنوال النحوي نفسه "موجودين" بشكل أو بآخر في ذهن مستعمل اللسان العربي، وهما أدواته في تحليل التعبير الملتبس إلى قراءاته الممكنّة.
ومن جملة تبعات هذا الإفتراض أن تصطبغ جل المفاهيم المعتمدة في وصف الظاهرة بصبغة واقعية إنسانية؛ فهي جزء لا يتجزأ من الكفاءة اللغوية للمستعمل العادي للعربية.
أما الطريقة المرجّحة لتواجد هذه المفاهيم في ذهن المحلّل - أو لإشتغالها الفعلي فيه - فهي تلك الموصوفة في متن البحث بالإستناد إلى مرجعية نظرية محددة.
بقي أن أسلوب الكتابة والعرض والتمثيل - بالرسوم والجداول مثلاً - قد يوحي بخروج بحثنا عن تلك النظرة الواقعية للظاهرة الموصوفة، والواقع هو أن ذاك الأسلوب توجهه هواجس أخرى أهمها إختصار العرض وتيسيره.
