تتوفر للأسرة العربية جميع مقومات التماسك والترابط الثقافية والاجتماعية والتاريخية، وذلك رغم تعرضها المستمر للتأثيرات الثقافية الخارجية نتيجة الاحتكاك والاتصال الثقافي والحضاري المستمر بين المجتمعات العربية وغيرها من المجتمعات الأجنبية.
وقد أدى ذلك بدون شك إلى تغلغل بعض الظروف التي أثرت نسبياً على تماسك الأسرة العربية وعلى نمطها، ونسق العلاقات الداخلية. ولم يقتصر التأثير على العوامل الثقافية والاجتماعية والشخصية التي نبعت من واقع وظروف المجتمعات العربية وأثرت على: بناء الأسرة العربية, توزيع أدوارها, تغير اهتمامات أعضائها نحو العادات الاجتماعية الراسخة في مناسبات الزواج.
وفي ضوء ذلك نعالج القضايا المتعلقة: بتطور نظام الأسرة وتغير وظائفها فى المجتمع. وبالطابع الإجتماعى للأسرة العربية فى الثقافة التقليدية في المجتمع السعودي والمجتمع الأردني. وذلك في سياق الباب الأول الذي يعالج الطابع للأسرة العربية.
أما الباب الثاني والذي يتناول مظاهر تغير الأسرة العربية فيعالج: نظام السلطة الأسرية وملامح تغيره, مظاهر تغير عادات الزواج في الثقافة التقليدية وملامح تغير إتجاهات أجيال الأسرة نحو عادات المهور في الثقافات التقليدية المتغيرة.
وأملنا كبير في أن يجد القارىء في هذا الكتاب ما يلبي حاجته، وما يوفر للمكتبة العربية مصدراً من مصادر المعرفة حول الأسرة العربية وملامح تغيرها.
