ابن حجر الهيتمي، هو شهاب الدين أبو العباس أحمد بن محمد بن محمد بن علي بن حجر الهيتمي السعدي الأنصاري الشافعي، (909 هـ - 973 هـ)، فقيه شافعي ومتكلم على طريقة أهل السنة من الأشاعرة، ومتصوف.
مولده وحياته ولد في رجب سنة 909 هـ في محلة أبي الهيتم من إقليم الغربية في مصر المنسوب إليها.
مات أبوه وهو صغير فكفله الإمامان شمس الدين بن أبي الحمايل وشمس الدين الشناوي.
ثم نقله الشمس الشناوي من محلة أبي الهيتم إلى مقام أحمد البدوي فقرأ هناك في مبادئ العلوم ثم نقله في سنة 924 هـ إلى جامع الأزهر فأخذ عن علماء مصر وكان قد حفظ القرآن في صغره.
أذن له مشايخه بالإفتاء والتدريس وعمره دون العشرين، وبرع في علوم كثيرة من التفسير والحديث والكلام والفقه أصولا وفروعا والفرائض والحساب والنحو والصرف والمعاني والبيان والمنطق والتصوف.
ومن محفوظاته كتاب "المنهاج"، ومقروآته لا يمكن حصرها، وأما إجازات المشايخ له فكيرة جدا استوعبها في معجم مشايخه.
قدم إلى مكة في آخر سنة933 هـ فحج وجاور بها، ثم عاد إلى مصر ثم حج بعياله في آخر سنة 937 هـ ثم حج سنة 940 هـ وجاور من ذلك الوقت بمكة وأقام بها يدرس ويفتي ويؤلف.
