ولما كان الفلاسفة في المدارس المختلفة لديهم أفكارهم التي يحكمون من خلالها على الشيء ويجاوبون على الأسئلة المثارة حوله من خلال ضروب النظر والتأمل الممكنة فقد كان محمود قاسم يهدف إلى هذا، غير أنه كان لا يبعد كثيراً كما فعل كثيرون ممن شطحوا بعقلهم وحاولوا ولوج مناطق ما أبعدهم عن أن ينالوا منها شيئاً ذا قيمة.
وإن كانت الفلسفة بتحديها الدائم وشكوكها الجاهزة تقريباً قد ألقت عليه بظلالها القوية فراح يشكك في آراء الفلاسفة السابقين عليه ناقداً حيناً ومفسراً حيناً آخر، كما راح يشكك في حقيقة نسب الكثير من الآراء لهم عندما وجد أنها لا تتوافق مع منهجهم العام، كما فعل مع ابن رشد والإمام الغزالي وغيرهم.
