يقدم هذا الكتاب المفاهيم والمبادئ الأساسية والأساليب المستخدمة لممارسة وظيفتي التخطيط والرقابة للعمليات الإنتاجية في المنظمات الصناعية والخدمية. ويحتوي هذا الكتاب على تسعة فصول، خصص الفصل الأول منها لتخطيط الطاقة الإنتاجية، حيث يعتبر القرار الخاص بتخطيط الطاقة من أهم القرارات لعلاقتها بكثير من القرارات الإنتاجية المتعلقة بأنشطة العمليات والتي يتم في إطارها الإنتاجية المتاحة لتقديم المنتجات والخدمات يعتمد على مدى صحة التنبؤ. ويتناول في الفصل الثالث التخطيط الإجمالي للإنتاج وهو أحد عمليات التخطيط متوسط الأجل والتي يتم وصفها في ضوء التخطيط طويل الأجل للطاقة. وتم في الفصل الرابع توضيح جدول الإنتاج الرئيسي، وهو يعتبر القائمة التي تعدها المنظمة لما تخطط للإنتاجية. فجدول الإنتاج الرئيسي يبيّن الموارد المحددة وأرقام المخزون لكل منتج بما يتفق مع المستويات الإجمالية. وخصص الفصل الخامس لموضوع جدولة العمليات، وهي الأنشطة الخاصة والتي يتم بمقتضاها تطبيق خطة الإنتاج متوسط الأجل. حيث يظهر الجدولة التفصيلية للعمليات المطلوبة لتنفيذ الخطط في الأجل القصير وتم تناول تخطيط أنشطة الصيانة في الفصل السادس باعتبارها أنشطة هامة للمحافظة على الطاقة الإنتاجية وضمان تمشيها مع المعايير الموضوعة وتعظيم الأداء للطاقة المتاحة والمحافظة على زيادة الثقة في أداء النظام الإنتاجي ككل. وخصص الفصل السابع لدراسة الإنتاجية وهي من الموضوعات الهامة. وتم تخصيص الفصلين الثامن والتاسع لدراسة المفاهيم الإدارية المطبقة في الإدارة اليابانية وهما الإنتاج في الوقت المحدد وإدارة الجودة الكلية.
وقد صمّم هذا الكتاب للوفاء باحتياجات الطلاب الدراسية في كلية التجارة جامعة الإسكندرية وفقاً لما يدرسه في المناهج المختلفة وحسب الوقت المتاح لتدريس هذه المادة.
