هذا الكتاب فريد في بابه لم ينسج على منواله فقد شمل كثيرًا من الموضوعات النافعة المتعلقة برؤية النبي "صلى الله عليه وسلم" يقظة وقدم الأدلة المبينة لذلك, ثم تحدث عن كرامات الأولياء وقارن بينها وبين السحر والمعجزة وغير ذلك من الأمور الأخرى. ثم تحدث عن مراتب الأولياء وتفاضلهم وبين أن التصوف هو العمل بالكتاب والسنة.
وخصص باباً وافياً عن الحلول والاتحاد وشرح بالأدلة تبرئة الصوفية من هذه الشبهة وأن كبار أئمتهم أنكروا على من يدعي ذلك وأخرجوهم من صفوفهم. وتحدث عن مقامات الصديقين ورد على كثير من الشبهات التي تثار حول التصوف وعلى بعض الأدعياء الذين يدعون بسقوط التكاليف عنهم وإباحة المحرمات.
وهو يعتبر من أصح وأفضل كتب المناقب والكرامات ورغم أن كثير من كتب المناقب والكرامات تعج بالأحاديث الموضوعة والواهية والقصص المنكرة. وقد حققنا بعضها وأشرنا إلى تلك الأمور في مواضعها إلا أن هذا الكتاب يختلف كثيرًا عن تلك الكتب فأكثره صحيح إلا ما ندر. وقد نوهنا عن الأمور المخالفة أو التي لا يسندها دليل كما هي عادتنا في كل ما حققناه فكل ما وافق الكتاب والسنة نأخذ به وما خالفهما بينا عواره.
