في عالم يخطو فيه العلم نحو التقدّم والمعرفة، وتتراكم فيه الإكتشافات بشكل مستمر، يتنكّر كثيرون لأسلوب التفكير العلمي الناقد، بحجة أن العلم في حالة تطوّر مستمر أو يقارب الحقيقة وليس هو الحقيقة نفسها، متناسين أن جهلنا بالحقيقة لا يعني أن نصدق أي إدعاء حول الوجود دون النقد والتجريب، ولا يعني أنه يمكن المساواة بين جميع الفرضيات وطرائق التفكير المطروحة، فشتَّان ما بين تفسير سقوط الأجسام نحو الأرض والقول بقوة الجاذبية والقول إن الأرض تحبُّ النقاط الأجسام الأصغر منها حجماً.
ويكفي أنَّ العلم قد أثبت عبر التاريخ فاعليّته، على عكس منظومات التفكير الأخرى التي تعتمد على التصديق دونما سؤال أو تحقيق، فالطائرة تطير بسبب توافق منظوماتها في العمل على المنظومة الفيزيائية المعروفة علمياً بغض النظر عن رأي أحد أو معتقده في قدرتها على الطيران.
المنهج العلمي هو أسلوب في التفكير وأفضل أداة ابتكرها العقل البشري لفهم طبيعة العالم الذي يعيش فيه.
