هذه الأطروحة البحثية هي دراسة وصفية تحليلية، تتناول مفهوم (حبكة المسرحية)، وتحاول تحديد ملامحه، بعزله عن المفاهيم التي اختلطت به، أو تداخلت معه في مجال الأبحاث النقدية والأدبية المتخصصة بدراسة المسرح.
وتتضمن الدراسة ثلاثة اجتهادات: أولاها: اجتهاد نظري تخصص بتحديد المصطلح ومعرفة ماهيته، ومتابعة تطوره في الدراسات الأدبية والنقدية المتخصصة، والاجتهاد الثاني: اجتهاد فني؛ عمل على تحليل (حبكة المسرحية)، للتوصل الى العناصر المكونة لها، والاجتهاد الثالث: اجتهاد تطبيقي بحث في محاولة ايجاد توصيف محدد للأشكال المختلفة من الحبكات التي ظهرت في المذاهب والاتجاهات والأساليب الدرامية العالمية المختلفة، ثم تطبيق ذلك على المسرحية العربية الحديثة.
حددت الدراسة نماذجها التطبيقية في أشهر النصوص المسرحية العربية التي ظهرت بين عامي (1950 – 1990)، وذلك لأن التاريخ الأول – بحسب اعتقاد الباحث – يمثل بداية ازدهار حركة التأليف المسرحي في الوطن العربي، فبعد أن كان التأليف المسرحي العربي – في أغلبه – اقتباساً أو ترجمة أو أعداداً لمسرحيات عالمية – غدا ابتداءاً مع نهاية أربعينيات القرن الماضي وخسمينياته، يتطرق الى موضوعات عربية، وشخصيات عربية، وأجواء عربية ومحلية، وظهرت ابتداءاً من تلك الفترة نصوص عربية مهمة، لكتاب أثروا المكتبة العربية – في هذا المجال – أمثال توفيق الحكيم من مصر، وخالد الشواف ويوسف العاني من العراق، وكاتب ياسين من الجزائر، وسواهم من البلدان العربية الأخرى، أما التاريخ الثاني فقد أملته جملة عوامل وظروف أحدثت تغييراً شاملاً في المشهد الثقافي العربي، ويقف في مقدمة تلك الظروف والعوامل، التغير في موازين القوى العالمية، أثر تفكك المنظومة الاشتراكية العالمية، وحرب الخليج الثانية، وما لحقتهما من متغيرات كثيرة ألقت بظلالها على الحركة الثقافية العالمية – بشكل عام – وعلى الثقافة العربية – بشكل خاص – حيث أدى ذلك الى ظهور نصوص مسرحية؛ اشتملت على موضوعات جديدة، بمواصفات مغايرة، تحتاج دراستها الى وقفات متأملة مغايرة أيضاً.
