الحديث في الجنس حشومة! وحشومة كلمة يعسر أن نجد لها ترجمة تفي بمعناها. فهي تارة، تعني الخجل، الذي يتملك المرء من إتيانه فعلاً من الأفعال، وتارة أخرى تعني الحياء. لكن تظل كلمة حشومة، في الحالين، مستعصية على الترجمة. فحشومة ليست، في الواقع، لا الحياء ولا الخجل.
ولا ينبغي أن نخلط قانون الحشومة الذي يتحكم في التقاليد، بما هو حرام، أى ما يمنعه الدين ويعاقب عليه في الدار الآخرة. فمن الأفعال ما يدخل في نطاق الحشومة، ولا يدخل في باب الحرام.
فالحشومة تتبدى لنا في صورة قناع سميك يفصل بين عالمين متعارضين. أحد هذين العالمين تحكمه العادات، ولا يترك المرء فيه سبيل لكي يثبت ذاته من حيث هو فرد، متحرر من النموذج الاجتماعي. وأما العالم الثاني فقوامه الصمت والأسرار، إنه عالم الشخص، الذي لا يحسب فيه حساب للتقاليد.
فتعالوا نمط اللثام عن هذا العالم المظلم، ولنحاول اقتحامه والتجوال في بعض متاهاته.
