حينما يقول العلماء أن الإيحاء قوة نفسية تولد طاقة فيزيائية تؤثر في الإنسان، فإن هذا القول يسلم بداهة بأن الإيحاء إنما هو سحر، لأن السحر تأثير نفسي قبل كل شيء ينعكس على الإنسان في جسده وفي غيره، وإذا كنا نقول أن السحر لا حقيقة له فإننا لا نزيد على القول أن السحر هو إيحاء لأن الإيحاء يحدث تأثيره حتى وإن كان نابعاً عن وهم، وهو بهذا يتفق مع السحر، وإذا كان تفسير تأثير السحر عبر مفاهيم التخيل الوهمي - يخيل إليه من سحرهم إنها تسعى - وسحروا أعين الناس وجاؤوا بسحر عظيم -، فإن هذا هو المضمون الحقيقي للإيحاء حينما يمارس عبر التنويم المغناطيسي فما الذي يختلف فيه السحر عن الإيحاء؟...
إن جوهر عمل السحر هو إيحاء على الآخرين في حين قد يكون الإيحاء على الإنسان نفسه، فالساحر يصب عمله على الآخرين لا على نفسه فهو يعرف الخط الفاصل بين الوهم والحقيقة، ولهذا يبقى هو واعياً بنفسه مدركاً لحقيقته - وهذا ما جعل سحرة فرعون يؤمنون لموسى لأنهم رأوا عمله على حقيقته الإعجازية ولو كان سحراً من سحرهم لقالوا كما قال فرعون لهم - أنه لكبيركم الذي علمكم السحر - ولكن في حالة الإيحاء فإن الإنسان حينما يوحي لنفسه بإيحاءات إيجابية معينة ويزرع لا شعوره - كما يقول علماء النفس- بمفاهيم وأفكار ومعتقدات وإنفعالات تزرع الصحة وتطرد المرض والوساوس، فإنه هنا يتصرف لا كساحر وإنما كطبيب يداوي نفسه ويشفي مرضه، فالساحر إذن لا يسحر نفسه ولكن الإيحاء يوحي للإنسان ذاته ويؤثر فيها.
