وفي هذا الكتاب يحاول المؤلف فضح ألاعيب من يدّعون "السحر" أو الاتصال بالأرواح عن طريق التنويم المغناطيسي، وذلك عن طريق عرض بعض ما يقومون به من ألاعيب من يدّعون "السحر" أو الاتصال بالأرواح عن طريق التنويم المغناطيسي، وذلك عن طريق عرض بعض ما يقومون به من ألاعيب، وفضح أسرار هذه الألاعيب. هذه هي الغاية الأساسية من الكتاب وعليها بنى المؤلف البابين الأوّلين فيه، ولكنه أضاف إليها بعض الأبواب القريبة من أعمال الخفّة التي يقوم بها بعض المحترفين.
