التراكيب النحوية لها معنى أوَّلٌ يدل عليه ظاهر الوضع اللغوي، ولها معنى ثانٍ ودلالة إضافية تتبع المعنى الأول، وهذا هو الهدف والمقصد في البلاغة، وقد جهد عبد القاهر في سبيل الوصول إلى هذا الهدف حتى خرج بقاعدة لا تتخلف، وهي أن دقة النظم، والبلاغة، والبراعة، والبيان كامنة في معاني النحو، ومطوية في التركيب اللغوي. وقد ظن بعض الباحثين أن ضَمَّ (علم المعاني) إلى (علم النحو) ومزجهما في بوتقة واحدة مما يخفف جفاف الدرس النحوي، ويكسبه الحيوية، ويجذب إليه الباحثين، فأعلنوا ذلك. وقد نبهَّتُ إلى أن ذلك مما يخالف العقل، ويجافي المنطق، وفيه خلط للذهب بالفضة، ومزج للملح بالماء، فأولى ثم أولى أن يستقل علماء النحو بالنحو، ويتولَّوْا إصلاحه بما يناسب، ويتناول علماء البلاغة موضوعاتها، فرجال كل علم هم أدرى بما في شعابه.
