اعتلت حضارة الرافدين "عرش الشرق" وتربعت فوق جنات عدن تجري من تحتها النهرين العظيمين دجلة والفرات وتحفهما أشجار النخيل من كل الجهات ببركة الخالق، وتوجت بتاج السهول الخضراء وتزينت بجواهر العلم والمعرفة، حاملة رمز القياس للأعمار وتخطيط المدن والأسوار والأبراج العالية والزقورت وأسست منذ آلاف السنين أرقى الحضارات في سومر واكد وبابل واشور وتحصنت بدرعها الواقعي لصد أي عدو مارد أراد النيل من شعبها.
تدور الأحداث بمحورين، الأول عن رحلة مثيرة وممتعة لإحدى البعثات التنقيبية برئاسة البروفسور جوزيف من جامعة بنسلفانيا، حيث كانت السهول الوسطى والجنوبية في بلاد الرافدين قد رسخت منذ عهد طويل بواسطة غرين النهرين السماويين.
وهذا التاريخ الحافل بالأحداث والإنجازات العظيمة كادت معالمه أن تطمس وتخفيه الأرض في جوفها بمرور الزمن، إلى أن جاءت البعثات للتنقيب في الحقب الماضية في المدن مثل "أوروك اريدو اور، وشورباك ولكش، لارسا، نيبور كبش، ومملكة بابل العظيمة وبحيراتها ومناطق الأهوار الساحرة حيث التقى أعضاء البعثة مع الأميرة الفاتنة شوباد أثناء جولاتها بمركبتها "اريدو" بين نهري دجلة والفرات ومناطق البحيرات بغية العثور على مواقع الفردوس المفقود لوادي الرافدين.
كما التحق عدد من شباب الأهوار مع البعثة لحفر المواقع الأثارية، وتسربت الأخبار وتناقلت وبثت الشائعات ودارت الأحاديث بين أهالي الأهوار بأن الأجانب حضروا للبحث عن كنوز "تل احفيظ" وحسب اعتقادهم لا يمكن التقرب من الكنوز بسبب وجود بعض المخلوقات الشريرة التي تحرسها؟...
أما في المحور الثاني، عاد أبو حمد بعد غياب دام طويلاً إلى أهوار الجنوب ليبحث عن ابنه المفقود في "حرب الخليج الأولى" وفي قلب الأهوار استرجع ذكرياته مع الطبيعة والقصب والبردى والطيور المهاجرة كما شاهد معاناة الأهالي والبؤس والفقر، حيث ثار مجموعة من الشباب والرجال للمطالبة بحقوقهم ورفع الظلم عنهم للعيش بكرامة، حتى إعلان الحرب والإنتفاضة عام 1991 وبعدها تم فرض العقوبات الدولية والحصار الجائر على العراق حتى 2003.
