إن اللغة العربية لغة أدبية ذات تعبير فني مقصود، طوعها المتكلمون بها للتعبير عن المواقف الكلامية والنفسية المختلفة، وأكب دارسوها على تأصيل قواعدها، وبيان جماليات مستويات الأداء فيها، وكان مما تعرضوا له بالبيان والتوضيح المواضع التي لا يكون فيها الكلام جارياً على وفق القياس اللغوي للجملة من حيث تكامل أركانها، ومنها الحذف، فقد تعرض اللغويون الأوائل للمواضع التي يقع فيها مبيّنين أثره في الإعراب بإسهاب، ومشيرين إلى أثره الجمالي بإقتضاب، فأخذ البلاغيون يسردون تلك المواضع غير متعرضين لأثرها في الإعراب بسبب طبيعة دراستهم، ومشيرين إشارات تكاد تكون عابرة إلى أثره في النص، اللّهم إلا ما كان من دراسة عبد القاهر الجرجاني لبعض مواضعه.
وفي العصر الحديث دعا كثير من القائلين بالمنهج الوصفي إلى ترك القول بالحذف، في حين ظل البلاغيون يلتزمون القول به ويتناولون بعض اللمسات الجمالية التي أداها.
ولذا، فقد جاءت هذه الدراسة لتعرض منهج كلِّ من الفريقين في تناوله، محاولة بيان نقاط الإلتقاء والإختلاف بين النحويين والبلاغيين، هذا من جانب، ومن جانب آخر فقد حاولت هذه الدراسة عرض دراسة تطبيقية تدرس من خلالها كثيراً من مواضع الحذف لتشير إلى ما خرج إليه من غايات بلاغية، أو لمسات بيانية جمالية، وقد كانت الأمثلة التطبيقية منوعة اشتملت بالدرجة الأولى على تحليل كثير من النصوص القرآنية وكذا الأحاديث النبوية، والأبيات الشعرية التي تمتد لمختلف العصور، فضلاً عن الأمثال.
وقد اقتضت طبيعة البحث أن يتكون من مقدمة، وثلاثة فصول، وخاتمة.
