رمقه الحوذي بنظرة ساخطة، وهو مازال يجاهد ، بينما ارتفعت عجلات العربة قليلاً في طريقها إلى التحرُّر من عثرتها. تجمعت عيون ووجوه كثيرة لسُكَّان الحارة خلف مشربيات الشبابيك المُطلة عليها تتابع الصياح ونهيق الحمار الذي أوشك على الإفلات من عنائه، بين هذه العيون المتسائلة أطلَّت عينا سوسن، وقد وقفت على كَنَبةٍ منخفضةٍ أسفل إحدى مشربيات البيت القديم المتصدِّر مدخل الحارة بطوابقه الثلاثة، صامتةً مبتسمةً كعادتها، عينها على الشارع وجهاد الحوذي والحمار، والأخرى تترقب “التروسيكل” الذي يحمل أباها من عمله الحكومي، جالساً في المُلحق الاسطواني، شبه مُمدّد، بجانِب السائق الذي يحتل النصف الآخر منتصب الظَّهر.
