يأتي هذا الكتاب كمحاولة علمية متواضعة لعرض الموضوعات المرتبطة بالأنشطة في مكتبات ومتاحف الأطفال كأحد الوسائط الأساسية لتثقيف الطفل في المجتمع الحديث وذلك من خلال خمسة فصول أساسية.
تناول الفصل الأول منها لموضوع كتب الأطفال ومدى أهميتها للطفل وأنواعها والمعايير الخاصة بإختيارها وكذلك أيضاً نماذج لتطور كتب الأطفال في بعض البلدان العربية (مصر - الكويت - العراق - تونس) ، ثم استعرض الفصل الثاني الخدمة المكتبية للأطفال من خلال التعرض لأنواع الخدمة المكتبية للأطفال وأهدفها، والتجهيزات الأساسية لمكتبة الأطفال، وأخيراً مجموعات المواد المتاحة بمكتبات الأطفال، ويأتي الفصل الثالث ليتعرض لموضوع التربية المكتبية للطفل من خلال مفهوم وأهداف التربية المكتبية ومجالاتها وكذلك محتوى منهج التربية المكتبية لطفل الروضة، وأتى الفصل الرابع موضوع متاحف الأطفال من خلال عرض مفهوم المتاحف وتصنيفها وأنواع ومحتويات متاحف الأطفال وأخيراً التربية المتحفية للطفل.
