علم الجفر: يبحث في الحروف والأرقام... وعلاقتها... أفراداً وتركيباً، وغاية التصرّف بها على وجهٍ يحصل به المطلوب إيقاعاً وإنتزاعاً، ومادته الأوفاق والتراكيب ومرتبته بعد الروحانيّات العليا والفلك ومنازل والنجوم (وهو ما ذهب إليه داود الأنطاكي في ذبل التذكره)، إذاً... علم "مرموز" مبني على أسرار الحروف والأرقام... ولا يستطيع تعلّمهُ وحفظهُ تماماً (بلا الرجوع إلى الجداول القديمة)... إلا قلة من الناس بالعالم وبعضهم يسميه علم يبحثُ فيه عن الحروف من حيث هي بناء مستقل بالدلالة ويسمى علم الحروف وعلم التكسير أيضاً ووضع الحروف الثمانية والعشرين على طريق البسط الأعظم يستخرج منها بطرق مخصوصة، وشرائط معينة ألفاظ مخصوصة تدل على معاني مستورة وحكم ملغوزة.
علم الزايرجة: هو علم القوانين الصناعية لإستخراج الغيوب، فرع من علم الحرف بواسطته يتم إستخراج الجواب من ألفاظ السؤال، وينسب هذا العلم إلى أبي العباس أحمد السبتي من أعلام المتصوفة بالمغرب وهو من أعلام المائة السادسة.
