قضت مليكة أوفقير كل حياتها سجينة. كان عمر ابنه الجنرال أوفقير البكر خمس سنوات عندما تبناها الملك محمد الخامس وتربت داخل قصره بالرباط، الذي ما كان تخرج منه إلا نادراً. وفي سن الثامنة عشرة، أصبحت، بفضل مقام والدها، من أكثر بنات المملكة دلالاً وحظوة.
غير أن محاولة الانقلاب ضد الحسن الثاني يوم 16 أغسطس 1972 ستقلب مجرى الأحداث. يموت الجنرال أوفقير "منتحراً" ويكون السجن مصير زوجته فاطمة وأبنائه الستة الذين لم يبلغ أصغرهم ثلاث سنوات. ومن أسوار الصحراء إلى الزنزانات الخانقة، تربي مليكة أخويها وأخواتها بالوسائل القليلة المتاحة، رافضة أن تستسلم لليأس. سيقضون عشرين عاماً من الاعتقال في ظروف رهيبة.
لم تنس مليكة، كشهرزاد حديثة، أي شيء: قلق ليالي الوحدة، الجوع والعطش، خيبات امرأة محرومة من الحب، بل أيضاً سخرية أسرة حكم عليها بأقسى عقوبة: النسيان. تحكي ذلك الهروب المذهل، والتيه السري من الدار البيضاء إلى طنجة، ومن طنجة إلى باريس، وتقدم لنا درساً رائعاً في الشجاعة والمرونة في مواجهة أقسى أشكال الحرمان.
شهادة مفجعة، حظيت بتتويج جائزة دار الصحافة عند صدورها في فرنسا عام 1999.
