في عشية يوم الاحتفال لتتويج ملك روريتانيا رودلف يتم تخديره بتوجيه من أخيه الأمير مايكل لكي يصبح غير قادر على أداء وحضور مراسم التتويج وبالتالي يتم اختياره ملكًا بدلًا عنه، حيث تم اختطاف رودلف بعد إفقاده لوعيه و سجنه في قلعة ببلدة صغيرة تدعى زِنْدَا، و لكن معاوني رودلف كانوا على أهبة الاستعداد لإتمام مراسم تتويجه مهما كانت الظروف، فقام اثنان من أعوان رودلف واقنعا بالقيام مكان الملك في مراسم التتويج زائرًا إنجليزيًا يدعى رودلف راسِنْدِل كان قد قابل بالصدفة رودلف الملك فيما مضى و دار بينهما حوار حيث أدركا أنهما أبناء عم بعيدين.
