لقد ظلّ تاريخ الأغنية البحرينيّة بعيداً عن إهتمام الكتّاب والباحثين في تاريخ البحرين، وفي الجانب الرسمي لم يتّضح أيّ مشروع ثقافيّ يعني بهذا المجال من التوثيق، وكان الزمان يمضي.
ومن الطبيعيّ أن يرحل العديد من الفنّانين الروّاد، وبرحيلهم تتضاءل المعلومات المتعلّقة بذاكرة الأغنية البحرينية، وأصبح هذا الشعور يؤرّقني مع رحيل أيّ فنّان أو فنّانة من كبار السنّ.
ومع الوقت تمخّض هذا الشعور عن أفكار ورؤى حول ضرورة التحرّك السريع للمبادرة بتوثيق ذاكرة الأغنية البحرينية، وفعلاً قمت بإجراء اللقاءات الميدانيّة مع من تبقّى من الفنّانين الروّاد والفنّانين الّذين عاصروا البدايات التأسيسيّة والتجمّعات الموسيقية والغنائيّة في البحرين، حتّى تتشعّب البحث إلى مفاصل تطوّر الحراك الموسيقيّ في البحرين من جميع جوانبه.
وتمخّض البحث عن عدد من الإصدارات تضمّنت سير أعلام الطرب وملامح الفنون الشعبيّة في البحرين، وأمّا هذا الإصدار فهو مشتمل على محاور مفصليّة تعبّر عن تطوّر المراحل التاريخية للموسيقى والأغنية الشعبيّة والحديثة في البحرين، منذ أواخر القرن التاسع عشر والقرن العشرين حتّى نهاية العقد الأوّل من القرن الحادي والعشرين، وتحديداً من ميلاد المطرب الشعبيّ الكبير الراحل محمّد ابن فارس سنة 1895 حتى سنة 2011م.
