لكل مجتمع تراث شعبي وعادات ينفرد بها، فيرسم عبر تاريخه مساراً لفنون مختلفة تصنف ضمن التقاليد؛ فتكوّن دستوراً مثالياً تحترم مواده من جميع المواطنين داخل البلد وتتبع أنظمته بطاعة عمياء دون الدخول في أبعاد هذه التقاليد وأصولها.
والزواج هو أحد الطقوس التي طغت عليه التقاليد والعادات والفنون فوصمتها بمبادئ محددة وإجراءات صارمة جعلت منه جزءاً من التقليد عند الشعب البحريني. فهذا المجتمع ما زال بكراً لم تدرس الكثير عن أنظمته دراسة علمية جادة.
ومن هذا المنطلق وحفاظاً على الفنون الشعبية في البحرين من الاندثار، جال الكاتب في رحاب نظام الزواج دارساً مختلف الجوانب التي تحيط به ابتداءً بالعرس كنظام اجتماعي تكاملي ثم مراسيم الزواج والتبعيات التي يضمها (كالفراش، والطباخ، والأزياء...) يضاف إلى ذلك الأمثلة التي جاءت في الزواج والنصوص الأدبية التي قيلت في الفنون، الشرح لها.
وقد استقى الكاتب معلوماته من مصادر حية ومراجع أدبية ومجلات بالإضافة إلى ما سمعه من الفنانات البحرينيات الذين مارسوا هذه الفنون.
