يأتى هذا الكتاب (الأساس فى النحو والصرف) ضرورة حتمية تفرضها التحديات العالمية الحادثة, ففى ظل ما يسود العالم من تيارات العولمة, والتطور التكنولوجى, وثورة المعلومات, وما يستتبعه ذلك من تهديد بمحو الهوية القومية وذوبان الثقافة فى الثقافات الواردة, فلا بد من تقوية الصلة بما هو تراثى, وتكوين الفرد القادر على مواجهة هذه التحديات وهو ما رأينا انه يكون أولا بالتمكن من لغتنا الأصلية, وهو يركز على عرض القواعد الأساسية للغة العربية نحوها وصرفها, ويؤكد على أهمية ربط القواعد النحوية والصرفية بالاستخدام اليومى للغة, والارتقاء به على نحو سليم, وتمثل هذه القواعد فى تراكيب وجمل سليمة, للوصول إلى مستوى الاستخدام الأمثل للغة.
وانطلاقا من مبدأ تيسير النحو للجميع تنفيذا لتوصيات مجمع اللغة العربية, واستيعاب متغيرات العصر, ومتطلبات الحياة, وتأكيدا على أن تعليم اللغة العربية هو تنمية للمهارات والقدرات اللغوية, وتحقيقا للممارسات اللغوية السليمة.
وقد راعينا فى الكتاب الأخذ بقرارات المجمع اللغوى بشأن تيسير النحو التعليمى لعام 1979م, وماحوته من حذف بعض الموضوعات التى كانت تدرس من قبل, وكذلك الأخذ بمنجزات العصر ومتطلباته, وذلك من خلال معالجة القواعد, والأمثلة عليها.
وقد جاء تنظيم الكتاب انطلاقا من فلسفة التكامل بين فروع اللغة العربية من جهة, وبين اللغة العربية والعلوم الأخرى من جهة ثانية, فى شكل وحدات ستة, تتناول كل وحدة القواعد التى تتعلق بموضوع واحد, فللاسم وحدة, للفعل وحدة.. على النحو التالى: الأسم, الفعل, الحرف, المشتقات, الأساليب, التصغير والنسب, والميزان الصرفى والمعجم, ثم اختتمنا الكتاب بملحقين: النحو التطبيقى وملحق الأخطاء الشائعة.
