لم تكنْ قِصّة الحبّ التي جمعَت بينَ "علي" و"طفلة" قِصّة عاديّة؛ ذلك أنّها كانت شاهدةً على فترة تاريخيًة مهمّة، هي السنوات التي وُلدت فيها عُمان الحديثة، وعادت بعدَها لتتبوّأ المكانة التي تليق بتاريخها وثرائها الحضاريّ.
تجري معظمُ الأحداث في ظفار، وفي عاصمتها صلالة بالتحديد. في تلك المدينةِ الجنوبية التي كانت معزولة عن العالم نشأَت "طفلة" وأحبّها علي. وحولَ قصة الحبّ هذه نسَجَ خالد الشنفري خيوطَ روايته، فأخذَنا معه أخذاً شيّقاً إلى عادات أهلِ صلالة، وإلى ملامح تُراثهم. وقدّم لنا معجماً هائلاً من المفردات المحليّة التي شملَت جوانبَ الحياة الشعبيّة هناك في ستينيّات وسبعينيّات القرن العشرين. وأرّخَ كذلك للأحداث السياسيّة التي شهدتها تلك السنوات، وللصراعات التي انتهت بمولد عُمان الحديثة. "طفلة" عمل فنيّ جميل، ورواية معرفيّة دسمة لا غنى للمثقّف العربيّ عنها.
