عبد الرحمن عبد الرحمن سيد أحمد البرقوقي، المعروف ﺑ «عبد الرحمن البرقوقي»: أديب وناقد مصري، ولد بمحافظة الغربية عام ١٨٧٦م، تعلَّم في الأزهر الشريف، ودرس على يد الشيخ المرصفي، كما استفاد من دروس الإمام محمد عبده. أصدر بحُرِّ مالهِ مجلةً شهرية سُميت بمجلة «البيان»، وكان يكتب بها العديد من عمالقة الأدب أمثال العقاد والمازني وشكري وغيرهم. وللبرقوقي العديد من المؤلفات؛ منها «شرح ديوان المتنبي» و«شرح ديوان حسان». وقد توفي عام ١٩٤٤م.

إن الشعر فكر ينبض، وعاطفة تختلج، وروح تدب في الأشياء، فتبعث فيها الحركة والحياة، وتنزع منها أسباب الجمود، فتحيلها خلقاً جديداً آخر، هو بعض آثار الفكر والعاطفة إذا رفدتهما الروح... والشعر في تراث كل أمة، صوت من أصوات وجدانها الاجتماعي المتجدد، ما تزال تعمل في الدربة وتجمع له من فنون التهذيب، حتى لكأنها تحسن بأن فيه سر من أسرار بقائها، وناموساً من نواميس وجودها المتسامي..
وشعر حسان في تراث أمتنا، تاريخ من تاريخها، وكنز من كنوزها..! لولا أن ما كان بين أيدى الناس من ديوانه، لا يعدو أن يكون أكثره محرفاً مصفحاً، قد مسخ أقبح المسخ، فلا تكاد نفسك تركن في بين صحيح، يمكن نسبته إلى شاعره. وانطلاقاً من مدى حاجة هذا الشعر للتحقيق ولدراسته، فقد تجرد المحقق "عبد الرحمن البرقوقي" لقراءة حسان دراسته في البيئة المكانية والزمانية في تاريخ الأدب العربي، وقدم بعد ذلك شرحاً لديوان حسان، شهد له بسعة الإطلاع، ودقة الفهم، ووضوح الرؤية، في أسلوب فذ بليغ، قل نظيره في تاريخ الشروح اللغوية والبيانية.
