البحث الحديثي هو البحث الذي يتكفل بدراسة أركان الحديث الأربعة، السند، والمتن، والدلالة، وأسباب الورود. من هنا جاءت دراسة الدكتورة سعاد جبار محمد الوائلي في (بيان الأبحاث الحديثية في مستمسك العروة الوثقى) وكيفية اعتماد الفقهاء على الروايات المروية عن المعصومين والإستدلال بها ومناقشتها في استنباط الأحكام الشرعية. إذ جاءت الدراسة استدلالاً على متن (العروة الوثقى فيما تعم به البلوى) للسيد محمد كاظم اليزدي الطباطبائي (ت 1337ه) والذي تميز بكثرة حواشيه وفروعه والتي بلغت عدتها أكثر من تسعة عشر حاشية وحظي بشروح إستدلالية رافقت خمسة عشر بحثاً إستدلالياً، كان من بينها (مستمسك العروة الوثقى).
في هذا الإطار عملت المؤلفة على سبر غور المستمسك بمجلداته (الأربعة عشر) متفحصة ومتتبعة لكل حكم شرعي، بغية التعرّف على الأبحاث الحديثية المبثوثة هنا وهناك في المستمسك، وطريقتها في البحث إرجاع الحكم الشرعي مع المقارنة بما في الشروح الأخرى للعروة الوثقى، مشخصة للرواية المستنبطة منها الحكم، ثم استخراج الرواية من كتاب (وسائل الشيعة) لتعتمد حكماً حديثياً موافقاً بما جاء في المستمسك، يترافق هذا مع إعادة النظر بالدراسات النظرية المتعلقة بالمحدثين والرجال وتطبيقه في مجال المستمسك.
توزعت الدراسة على ثلاثة فصول، تكفل الفصل الأول بدراسة الجانب الرجالي في المستمسك والتي استُخلصت من (المستمسك) والتي تمثلت بأصحاب الإجماع والمراسيل والمجاهيل والمهملين والمشتركات ..، في حين أوضح الفصل الثاني المجال الدراياتي وتطبيقاته للتقسيم الرباعي المتعارف عليه لدى المحدثين والفقهاء، مع الإستعانة بالتنظير للمصطلحات واعتماد التطبيق لكل مصطلح. واختص الفصل الثالث والأخير بنظريات الأسانيد وما لها من أهمية لدى الفقهاء الأصوليين، إذ جل أحكامهم الدراياتية قد تحقق على المعرفة التامة للأسانيد.
الكتب الرجالية والدرايتية هي التي تحيل إلى معنى الخبر ومم تتكون أقسامه (الصحيح والحسن والموثق والضعيف) وحجية قبول الأخبار ومعاييرها.
