كل ما تعنيه دلالة العنوان وهو (جوهر الإسلام) أن الكتاب ينصب بصفة أصلية على العناية بأصول الإسلام وأحكامه التي لا يدور حولها خلاف كبير، بمعنى أن الكتاب يحاول أن يقدم صورة للإسلام في جوهره وتكامله، دون التركيز على الجوانب الكمالية التي لا يختل الإسلام بتركها. وأهم ما روعي في فهم هذا الكتاب: أولاً: الاعتماد على القرآن الكريم سواء في الاستشهاد به وفي الاستبناط منه، على أساس أن القرآن هو دستور الإسلام وتشريعه الذي لا يمكن الاختلاف حوله.
ثانياً: محاولة تحاشي الخلافات المذهبية بين مذاهب أهل السنة، والاقتصار على المشهور من الأحكام، على أساس أ، الهدف من الكتاب هو التعريف بالحد الأدنى أو الضروري من أحكام التشريع الإسلامي، ثالثاً: عرض الأحكام مصحوبة بشيء من التعليل، وخصوصاً القضايا التي لا يفهمها غير المسلمين، أو تصل إلى آذانهم مشوهة، مع مراعاة الإيجاز قدر الإمكان في التعليل، حتى يتمشى مع منهج الكتاب في الاختصار والإيجاز. رابعاً: مراعاة إبراز الجانب الاجتماعي في التشريع الإسلامي.
