حين كان في بلادستان، قبل سبعة أشهر، عاش لحظات أسوأ من هذه: الجوع، والعطش، والقذائف الملقاة من علٍ على المواقع في وطأتها قدماه، والخوف من رصاصة طائشة تأتي على حياته...، لكنه ظل يشعر بالقوة؛ ربّما لأنه يحمل رشاشاً، ربّما لأنه بين رفاقه يقتسم المخاطر معهم، وربّما لآنه آمن بأن للشهادة ثمناً جزيلاً في العالم الآخر.
أما الموت بين أنياب الضواري ومخالبهم، أو بسقوطٍ مفاجئ من جبل صخري في ظلَماء الليل، فلا يريدُه لنفسه لأنه موتٌ حقير، لو ظل في بلادستان لكان ذلك أفضل له، على ما تحمَّله من الإقامة فيها من أهوال.
تمنى لو أنه لم ينتصح بنصيحة أبي صُهَيْب الشيشاني بالعودة إلى بلاده، والمُبَاشرةِ في الإعداد للجهاد فيها؛ من توفير السلاح وتخزينه إلى حين الضرورة، وتكوين الخلايا، وتدريبهم، لم يكن أمراً تنظيمياً أُمِرَ به؛ كان نصيحةً يُؤخذ في شأنها ويُعْطى.
وحين سأل أبا حفص، قائد كتيبته الذي فرَّغَه لتدريب المقاتلين الوافدين من خارج، إن كان يَحْسُن به أن يعمل بنصيحة أبي عمر، استمهله حتى يرجع إلى مفتي الجماعة وقادتها العسكريين، فيأخذ منهم رأياً في المسألة.
ما مرَّ يومان حتى أتاهُ أبو حفص بالبشارة: موافقة أهل الحلّ والعقد في الجماعة على الإياب إلى البلاد، لزرع نُطْفةِ الجهاد فيها، وإدخالها في أحواز نهرستان وبلادستان.
