ويستهل الكتاب مادته بالطهطاوي ثم البارودي ثم أحمد شوقي ثم خليل مطران ثم كامل الكيلاني ثم توفيق الحكيم. وهم الذين ولدوا في القرن التاسع عشر، أما الرواد مواليد القرن العشرين فحاديهم محمد مهدي الجواهري، يحيى حقي، أبو القاسم الشابي، ثم بدر شاكر السياب، وأخيراً يوسف إدريس، واختتم الكتاب بتقديم سيرة موجزة عن حياة الأديب العالمي نجيب محفوظ وفنه الروائي بين المحلية والعالمية.
ويقتني أن شباب الأمة بحاجة إلى الزاد المستنير، وقراءة ترجمات هؤلاء الرواد المبدعين المجددين ليقفوا عند روائع الإبداع والعطاء.
