احتلت الحملات الصليبية بجانبها السياسى والتاريخي جزءاً لا يستهان به في الدراسات التى تناولت تلك الفترة، وبالرغم من أن حقيقة الحملات كانت تحمل القصد الإقتصادى البعيد تماماً عن الدين إى أن الجانب الإقتصادي لم يحظى بالإهتمام ذاته. ولهذا قام الدكتور (عبد الحافظ عبد الخالق البنا) بوضع تلك الدراسة التى إنقسمت إلى أربعة فصول وخاتمة يسبقها مقدمه نقدية للأهم المصادر والمراجع. وقد تناولت الدراسة النشاط التجارى للصليبين وأسواق المدن التى استولى عليها الصليبيون في بلاد الشام ومظاهر الحياة اليومية، كذلك النظم المالية وأخيراً السلطة الإدارية والأسواق.
