منذ أن ألَّف الإمام الشاطبي - رحمه الله - قصيدته الرائية المشهورة ، المسماة بـ ( عقيلة أتراب القصائد في أسنى المقاصد ) التي نظم فيها كتاب ( المقنع ) لأبي عمرو الداني - رحمه الله - في الرسم القرآني، وزاد عليها أحرفا يسيرة، والعلماء يتنافسون في شرحها وبيان مكنونها، فكان من أجمع شروحها شرح الإمام برهان الدين الجَعْبَري - رحمه الله - المسمى بـ ( جميلة أرباب المراصد في شرح عقيلة أتراب القصائد ) وذلك بما اشتمل عليه من نقولات نفيسة استقاها المؤلف من مظان قديمة متخصصة في علم الرسم لم تظهر إلى الوجود حتى الآن، وقد كان جهد المؤلف في هذا الشرح النفيس واضحا، حيث ناقش عددا من العلماء السابقين فيما أوردوه من أقوال، و تعقب جزءا منهم في بعض المواضع، و وجَّه أوجه الرسم القرآني على النحو الذي توجَّه به القراءات القرآنية، وغير ذلك من الفوائد التي جعلت من هذا الشرح مرجعا لكل باحث ومصنف في هذا العلم.
