في هذا العمل يحتفي الدكتور "زهير صاحب" بفن الفخار والنحت الفخاري في العراق، من خلال الإضاءة على روائع متحف الفخار العراقي الخالد. الذي ينطبق بثقافة عصور ما قبل التاريخ في العراق بشكل عام، والفخار والمنحوتات الفخارية بشكل خاص.
يحتوي الكتاب دراسة تحليلية للمبدعات الفخارية العراقية الرافدينية عبر أربع وجهات نظر نقدية "الأولى تحتفل بالعلاقة بين البيئة/ الإطار الخارجي والنص/، (...) والثانية تحتفل بالنص الفخاري، من خلالب بنية العلاقة بين الفنان المبدع والنص (...) والرؤية النقدية الرابعة تحتفل بإبراز العلاقة بين المتلقي وبين النص". يقول المؤلف عن عمله هذا "إن منهج الدراسة التحليلية لمبدعات متحف الفخار العراقي في هذا الكتاب نوعاً من المنهج التكاملي المتعدد والمتكثر، هو الرؤية والواسطة والهدف الذي نرمي إليه. وهو منهج يستعير من التاريخية بنفس الفاعلية التي يفعل بها النص في استقصاء الأبعاد السايكلوجية، ويستند إلى الدراسات البنيوية والسيميائية بذات القصد في تحري التحليل وإعادة التركيب والفهم والتأويل. وبهذا الإقرار بالتعددية التكاملية نفهم المقولات النصية ونيتوعبها ونعلن عنها، ونقيم حواراً مع الجميع وننفتح على الجميع، ونخلص في النهاية إلى الموقف الإستراتيجي المتحرك في رؤية النص من خلال مبدعات هذا المتحف الإبداعي الخالد..."
