تكثف هذه الدراسة النص، بالحفر في لباب الأثر، أي إنها مهتمة بالعناصر الأساسية والجوهرية عن إشكالية الموضوع التي لا غنى له عنها، فنحن هنا، نضع جُل إهتمامنا في توضيح أدق الخصوصيات لفنون هذه الفترة على أرض العراق بخصوص جوانبها الفكرية، والأساليب الفنية التي أنجزت بها، وإبداعات الفنان التقنية وسمات الأشكال التعبيرية، لأن أعمال الفن، بعد تأطيرها بعاملي الزمان والمكان، ومهما اختلفت ضروبها، تشهد إرتباطاً كبيراً ببعضها، فالفن بمثابة بلّورة لكل نشاط حضاري، وتركيز لطبيعة الحياة البشرية، وسجل صادق لوجدان الإنسان، ووعيه بصفة عامة.
ولكن وظيفة الفن تَجد لها في بعض الأحيان، صيرورة أعمق من ذلك، إذ ان في طبيعة فنون عصر قبل الكتابة الرمزية، حقائق شاملة معينة، قد يكون لها أكثر معنى، يمكن أن يصلنا عن تلك الفترة الزمنية التي سبقت ظهور الكتابة، فالنشاط الفني جزء لا يتجزأ من إبداعات الإنسان، لبلوغ فهم أعمق للواقع وتطويره.
ذلك غن الفن كان وما يزال ذلك الجزء الهام من تاريخ الإنسان وثقافته وتراثه، غن ما تمثله هذه المرحلة من إزدهار في الفنون وتنوع الأساليب التي أبدعت بها، لم تكن إلا تعبيراً اختاره المبدع بعناية للفكر المجرد، فالعمل الفني هنا لا يمكن فصله عن الفكر، إنه تمثيل لصورة التجربة التي بدت واعية بذاتها.
