يهتم هذا الكتاب بالرعاية الاجتماعية والنفسية للفئات الخاصة والمعاقين من منظور مهنة الخدمة الاجتماعية وقد جاء الكتاب في أربعة أبواب رئيسية الباب الأول اهتم بالرعاية الاجتماعية والنفسية للفئات الخاصة والمعاقين وانطوى على أربعة فصول ناقش الفصل الأول المفاهيم الأساسية في المجال وخصص الفصل الثاني لسيكولوجية الفئات الخاصة بينما عرض الفصل الثالث لتأهيل الفئات الخاصة والمعاقين وأخيراً الفصل الرابع الذي عرض الدور الاجتماعي في الرعاية الاجتماعية والنفسية للمعاقين وخصص الباب الثاني للفئات الخاصة من الناحية الحسية والعقلية فاختص الفصل الخامس للمعاقين سمعياً والفصل السادس للمعاقين بصرياً كمثالين للإعاقة الحسية بينما ناقش الفصل السابع للمعاقين ذهنياً والفصل الثامن للمتفوقون عقلياً كمثالين للفئات الخاصة من الناحية العقلية أحدهما فئة سلبية والأخرى فئة إيجابية. وخصص الباب الثالث للفئات الخاصة اجتماعيا وجسمياً وناقش الفصل التاسع المدمنون كأحد الإنحرافات الاجتماعية بينما ناقش الفصل العاشر فئة مبتوري الأطراف والفصل الحادي عشر مرض السرطان كمثال للإعاقات الجسمية بينما عرض الفصل الثاني عشر للمشكلات الاجتماعية للمرض بصفة عام، وخصص الفصل الرابع لعرض بعض البحوث والدراسات المرتبطة بالفئات الخاصة والمعاقين فعرض لثلاث دراسات عن المدمنين والمبدعون وضعاف السمع. وتأمل المؤلفة أن يكون هذا الكتاب لبنة تضاف إلى البناء المعرفي المتاح في مجال رعاية الفئات الخاصة والمعاقين ويسد النقص في المكتبة العربية في هذا المجال.
