إن الكتاب الذي بين يدي القارئ الكريم يتضمن حواراً وجدلاً يلتقي فيه الفكر السياسي بنظريات علم الإجتماع، والواقع للظاهرة السياسية. وفي بنائه الفكري يتضمن أربعة أبواب وخمسة عشر فصلاً، الباب الأول يناقش في فصوله الثلاث التعريف بعلم السياسة والدراسات البينية، ثم رواد هذا العلم، وموضع الظاهرة السياسية في مفاهيم علم الإجتماع ونظرياته، والجزء الثاني يتكون من ثلاثة فصول تناقش علاقة الدولة بالسياسة، وعلاقتهما بالعلم، وبناء القوة ونظم الحكم، والجزء الثالث يناقش في فصوله الأربع الحركات القومية والهوية، وصراع العرقيات والمواطنة والعنف السياسي، والعنف المفرط. ثم الثورات وعسكرية الحكم. أما الجزء الرابع والأخير فهو يتضمن خمسة فصول تتناول الديموقراطية والأحزاب السياسية والفساد السياسي والإعلام الأيديولوجي، وتأثير الإعلام على الوعي السياسي، وعلاقة الرأي العام بالسلوك السياسي.
هذه بإيجاز ملامح مضمون المحتوى الذي يصب في نطاق دراسات علم الاجتماع السياسي بما تحتويه من وقائع في ماضي الدول وحاضرها.
