يتحدث هذا البحث التاريخي عن العلاقات بين الأندلس الإسلامية وإسبانيا النصرانية في عصر بني أمية وملوك الطوائف، فيتناول في المقدمة أحوال الأندلس الإسلامية من عصر الولاة (95-138هـ)، كما ويتطرق للعوامل التي أدت إلى قيام المقاومة النصارنية، ممثلة في مملكة جليقية واشتريس. وإلى انتهازها فرصة الصراع القبلي في الأندلس الإسلامية. أما الباب الأول فخصص للحديث عن العلاقات السياسية بين الأندلس الإسلامية وإسبانيا النصرانية في عصر أمراء بني أمية (138-316هـ)، ووضح سمات هذا العصر، وبين عوامل القوة والضعف التي شكلت العلاقات بين الدولتين في تلك الفترة، سواء كانت تلك العوامل تتعلق بنظم الحكم أم بظروف طبيعية وجغرافية وبشرية، أم بأسباب دينية أو اجتماعية أو اقتصادية.
وتحدث الباب الثاني عن العلاقات السياسية بين الأندلس الإسلامية وإسبانيا النصرانية في عصر الخلافة، إذ كانت القوى في ذلك الوقت قد أخذت شكلها النهائي، وأصبح بالتالي الشمال النصراني يضم الأقسام السياسية التي عاشت بعد ذلك واستمرت حتى نهاية القرن الخامس الهجري/الحادي عشر الميلادي. كما ظهرت الخلافة الأموية في الأندلس منذ عام 316هـ، واستمرت أكثر من قرن...
أما الباب الثالث فتحدث عن العلاقات السياسية بين ممالك الطوائف وبين ممالك إسبانيا النصرانية وتوضيح سمات ذلك العصر، وأحوال ممالك الطوائف، كما وبين ما انتابها من ضعف سياسي واقتصادي وتناحر عسكري وفساد اجتماعي، وما كان لذلك من أثر على علاقاتها مع إسبانيا النصرانية، كما وتم في هذا الباب إلقاء الضوء على أحوال نصارى الشمال الإسباني، وما سادهم من وحدة داخلية تحت حكم أسرة آل شانجة الكبير، وما نتج عن ذلك من ازدياد قوتهم وتفوقهم.
وتحدث الباب الرابع والأخير عن أهم التأثيرات الحضارية بين الممالك الإسلامية والنصرانية في الأندلس، في عصر بني أمية وملوك الطوائف، وفي هذا الحديث تم تقصي العوامل التي جعلت هذه التأثيرات بين هذين الشعبين المتلاصقين ممكنة، وتم أيضاً إبراز الدوافع والأسباب التي هيأت الفرصة لحدوثها وتفاعلها...
