عندما تصبح الحقيقة خيانةًهو القصة المرعبة لقانون الباتريوت، والتكتُّم على هجمات الحادي عشر من سبتمبر، والحرب على العراق.أَلَّفَتْ هذا الكتاب سوزان لينداور، وهي صحفية وكاتبة وناشطة أمريكية مناهضة للحرب، من مواليد عام 1963م. درست في مدرسة أنكوراج الثانوية (ولاية ألاسكا)، ثم تخرجت في كلية سميث عام 1985م، والتحقت بكلية لندن للاقتصاد حيث حصلت على درجة الماجستير في السياسة العامة.عملت ضابط اتصال لدى وكالة الاستخبارات المركزية الأمريكية، وقدَّمت تقارير تُحذِّر من احتمال وقوع هجمات بالطائرات على مركز التجارة العالمي بنيويورك في الحادي عشر من سبتمبر عام 2001م، وحذَّرت أيضًا من المآسي التي ستنتج من غزو العراق. أجرت لينداور اتصالات مطولة مع دبلوماسيين عراقيين في واشنطن، وزارت بغداد حيث توصلت إلى اتفاق مع المسؤولين العراقيين لحل قضايا الخلاف كلها، وحماية المصالح الأمريكية، لكنَّ إدارة جورج بوش كانت - كما تقول- مصممةً على احتلال العراق؛ سواء ثبت امتلاكه لأسلحة الدمار الشامل أم لم يثبت؛ ولذلك تنكَّرت لها الاستخبارات الأمريكية، وشكَّكت وزارة العدل في سلامة قواها العقلية، ثم اعتُقلت عام 2004م، ووُجِّهت إليها تهمة العمالة للعراق (عميل عراقي غير مسجل)، ثم وُضعت في مصحة للأمراض العقلية داخل قاعدة عسكرية.تُعَد سوزان لينداور المواطنة الأمريكية الثانية التي حوكمت وفقًا لقانون الباتريوت؛ إذ احتُجزت بموجب هذا القانون مدَّة خمس سنوات من دون توجيه أي تهمة إليها أو محاكمة.أَلَّفَتْ لينداور هذا الكتاب الذي يحكي تجربتها الخاصة المريرة، ونشرته في الولايات المتحدة، ومَوَّلت جزءًا منه من حسابها الخاص، وهي تكشف فيه أسرار هجمات الحادي عشر من سبتمبر عام 2001م، وتقول إنَّها من تدبير الاستخبارات الأمريكية والموساد الصهيوني، مُؤكِّدةً المعرفة السابقة لوكالة المخابرات المركزية الأمريكية والحكومة الأمريكية بالتهديدات لشن هجمات على مركز التجارة العالمي عن طريق خطف طائرات، وتذكر في كتابها أنَّ مركز التجارة العالمي لم يُدمَّر بفعل اصطدام الطائرات، وإنَّما دُمِّر باستخدام قنابل الثرميت التي نُقلت بشاحنات قبل أيام قليلة من الهجمات، وهي المعلومات التي تُفسِّر السقوط الحر للبرجين، وانصهار الحديد إلى غبار في موقع الحادث، وقد أكد هذه الرواية المعهد الوطني للمعايير والتكنولوجيا.
