يجد المثقفون أنفسهم في مأزق، خاصة وقد ارتبطت الثقافة الآن بالاقتصاد، وارتبط اقتصاد العولمة بالثقافة، فالحال لم يعد ما كان عليه في زمن الحداثة أوائل القرن العشرين. وهذا الوضع الملتبس الذي يضع الكاتب او الفنان بين مطرقة العولمة وسندان الدولة، قد يكون دافعا لتفعيل الدور القومي للثقافة ودفع الدولة إلى إعادة النظر في أدائها الثقافي. حينما يتسم في شكل أنساق ثقافية أحادية فيتفق في هذه الحالة وسياسة "الأمركة" المنتشرة في شكل أنساق ثقافية أحادية منمطة، تفتقد إلى الخصوصية، وتفرض مفهومها الاستهلاكي. كل ذلك يثير التساؤل حول كيفية الموازنة بين مسئوليتنا إزاء أوطاننا والعالم فى مرحلة تاريخية لن تتحق فيها الثرة الحقيقية سوى بتحرير مصادر إنتاج المعرفة.
