تعد اللغة مظهراً من مظاهر الرقي البشري الجدير بالدراسة من الباحثين في العلوم الإنسانية على اختلافها، ولهذا ارتبطت دراسة اللغة بعلوم إنسانية أخرى كعلم الاجتماع، وعلم النفس، والفلسفة، وغيرها.
ومنذ نشأت الدراسات اللغوية، وهى تحاول أن تعرف تاريخ اللغة الانسانية من بدايتها كيف كانت؟ وكيف تطورت إلى لغات مختلفة؟ حتى تبين للدارسين ان هذا ضرب من الفلسفة اللغوية، فإتجه الباحثون إلى نشأة اللغة عند الطفل.
كان من الطبيعى ان يلجأ الباحثون الى دراسة تطور مهارة الكلام عند الطفل منذ مولده، إبان محاولتهم إلقاء الضوء على نشأة اللغة وتطورها.
وعندما اجريت هذه التجارب على اطفال أسوياء، فى ظروف طبيعية انتهت فيما يتعلق بنشأة اللغة وتطورها إلى نتائج غير مقنعة، فكل ما دلت عليه التجارب، هو ان الطفل يحاكى حديث الكبار فى المجتمع الذى يعيش فيه، ولما كانت الضوابط العلمية تنقص هذه التجارب، فلا يمكننا أن نصل الى نتائج مقنعة على اساسها، خاصة فيما يتعلق بنشأة اللغات.
وقد قام عالمنا الجليل الدكتور عطية سليمان بهذه الدراسة التطبيقية الميدانية لهذا الموضوع والذى تحتاجه المكتبة العربية، وهو نمو اللغة عند الطفل، وهو موضوع استهواه، فقدم لنا فيه هذه الدراسة الطيبة والتى شرع فى تنقيحها فى طبعتها الثانية مرة اخرى، عسى ان يكون مرجعاً لمن هم بدراسة ما فى هذا المجال، والذى اضاف اليه فصلا جديدا حول أصول بعض الكلمات المستخدمة ضمن لغة الطفل حاول من خلاله تأصيل بعض كلمات الطفل لمعرفة أصولها، عربية وقبطية ومصرية قديمة.
نسأل الله أن يجازيه خيراً عنها وأن يثرى المكتبة العربية دائما بكل ما تحتاجه فهو نعم المولى وهو نعم النصير.
