يأتي هذا الكتاب ضمن المحاولات التي تدرس النص الشعري القديم، وقد انطلق من المنطقة البلاغية التي تتشكل فيه، وهو يتخذ منهجاً نقدياً يستفيد من المناهج التحليلية الحديثة، وقد جعل النص العذري - متمثلاً في تجربتي: كثير عزّة، وجميل بثينة - حقلاً للتطبيق.
وقد جاء هذا الكتاب في ثلاثة فصول، هي ثمرة دراسات سابقة بدأت سنة 1996م، نشرت في مجلات علمية محكمة مختلفة، هذه الفصول، هي: الفصل الأول - أسلوب الإلتفات في شعر كثير عزة، الفصل الثاني: أسلوب التجريد في شعر كثير عزة، الفصل الثالث: التكوين التكراري في شعر جميل بثينة.
وقد كانت الغاية من هذه الفصول الكشف عن طبيعة التشكيلات الأسلوبية التي تتخذها الضمائر متمثلة في أسلوبي: الإلتفات، والتجريد، ويتخذها أسلوب التكوين التكراري في النص الشعري القديم.
بوصف هذه الأساليب تقنيات بلاغية تؤدي دوراً دلالياً في تجلية المواقف المختلفة للذات الشاعرة في الأبنية النصية، فالشاعر بوصفه إنساناً يحتاج لأن يشعر بذاته من خلال البحث عنها من ناحية، ويكشف عما تعانيه من ناحية أخرى؛ ولذا فهو يبث في تجربته الشعرية مشاعره العميقة المتعلقة بمفردات الحياة التي يتعامل معها، ويشكل إزاءها مواقف شعورية تنبع من ذاته الإنسانية، في الوقت الذي يحتاج فيه إلى أن يكتنهها داخل العمل الشعري، من خلال نظره فيها، داخل نفسه وخارجها؛ فيلجأ إلى مثل هذه الأساليب التي تؤهله لهذه الغاية، ولعل الشاعر العذري بما في شعره من خصائص ذاتية أمس الشعراء حاجة لمثل هذه الأساليب.
