ورد في الآيات القرآنية في كتاب الله ما هو في رؤية الله ونظر المؤمنين و المتقين والصالحين لله عز وجل يوم القيامة ، وورد أيضا حرمان أهل النار والكافرين من هذه النعمة. وأيضا اختلف العلماء والأئمة في مسألة رؤية الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم لله عز وجل في ليلة الإسراء والمعراج أما عن رؤيته سبحانه وتعالى في الدنيا فقد كان فيها إجماع وأن خرج القليل من هذا الإجماع. وحول هذه القضية العقائدية الخطيرة والتى تعددت حولها الآراء قام ( أبو القاسم المقدسي) المعروف ( بأبي شامة) بوضع هذا الكتيب حول هذه المسألة وقام بعرض الآراء حولها وقد قام بتنفيذ آراء المعتزلة والجهمية تماما.. كما أورد الأحاديث النبوية وعلق في الهامش على سندها فكان كتابا على صغر حجمه متقنا متبعا للأدلة النقلية والعقلية.
