لان رجالا من تاريخنا كان لشخصيتهم من قوة التأثير ما استطاعوا به تجاوز قرون متطاولة والوصول بتأثيرهم الى القرن الخامس عشر هجري حتى غدا ذلك التأثير ظاهرة فكرية واجتماعية يتنازع الناس في تحليلها واتخاذ المواقف منه.
ولان الشيخ تقي الدين ابن تيمية يعد من أبرز أولئك الرجال اذ كان له من الحضور في عصرنا بتركته العلمية وبمواقفه الاجتماعية والسياسية ما لا يخفى.
ولان الوفاء بحق البحث العلمي يقتضي منا إذا علمنا ان تلك التركة العلمية وتلك المواقف الاجتماعية والسياسية تكونت في عصر المماليك ان لا نتجاوز ظروف ذلك العصر عند النظر فيها.
ولأننا نحتاج ان نرى صورة ابن تيمية في عصره مكتملة ومرتبة غير مبعثرة وموثوقة غير مزورة.
ومركز تفكر للبحوث والدراسات اذ يقدم هذه الدراسة التاريخية التي تناولت مرحلة من اهم مراحل ابن تيمية يأمل ان تتلوها دراسات أخرى في نفس الباب. تخطي مراحل أخرى من حياته وحياة غير من المصلحين كان لهم دور في عصرنا.
