مؤلف هذا الكتاب هو الداعية الإسلامي الشيخ محمد بن علوي بن عباس المالكي الحسني خادم العلم الشريف بالبلد الحرام، وبيت السيد محمد بنعلوي المالكي بمكة بيت، سيادة، وشرف، وعلم، فضل منذ مئات السنين، فالسيد محمد بن علوي وأبوه وجده وأبو جده ومن فوقه كل منهم عالم فاضل، حافظ لكتاب الله، ومنهم المدرس والإمام والخطيب بالمسجد الحرام، نالوا الفضل والتكريم بالعلم والعمل والنسب النبوي الشريف.
ولد بمكة المكرمة ونشأ بها حيث تعلم في حلقات العلم بالمسجد الحرام وفي مدرسة الفلاح ومدرسة تحفيظ القرآن الكريم، وأكمل دراسته الجامعية بالأزهر الشريف حتى حصل على شهادة الدكتوراه، كما روى كثيراً من الكتب وخاصة الحديث عن أبيه عن جده.
رحل في طلب العلم إلى مصر والمغرب وسوريا والهند وباكستان، واستفاد كثيراً في هذه الرحلات من الإطلاع على علم القراءات والحديث والخلاف العالي بين كل المذاهب ومن جمع المخطوطات ولقاء الرجال ومعرفة الآثار وزيارة المشاهد وكتابة الفوائد.
له مؤلفات تزيد عن الأربعين في فنون متعددة تدل على طول باعه وكثرة إطلاعه وتضلعه في العلوم الإسلامية نذكر منها: موطأ الإمام مالك بن أنس برواية ابن القاسم وتلخيص القابسي، مفاهيم يجب أن تصحح، منهج السلف في فهم النصوص بين النظرية والتطبيق، خصائص الأمة المحمدية، الإنسان الكامل، الذخائر المحمدية.
وهذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا كتاب نفيس لشرف موضوعه وكثرة فوائده. أما موضوعه فهو ذكر الله عز وجل والصلاة على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وفضائل الأعمال، ولذلك فقد اعتنى بتغيير عنوانه من : "ماذا في شعبان؟" إلى "اطمئنان القلوب بذكر علام الغيوب"، لأن مؤلفه ألفه بمناسبة شعبان ولكن نفعه وفوائده تعم سائر الأزمان ولا يستغنى عنها طالب الاطمئنان إذ قال الله عز وجل في كتابه العزيز: "الذين أمنوا وتطمئن قلوبهم بذكر الله، ألا بذكر الله تطمئن القلوب".
