كان الطلاب جولاتهم الحرة، يسيحون فى دروب باريس ومنعطفاتها، يلجون شوارع الفنانين ويشاهدون لوحاتهم، كثير منهم دعا الفنانين التشكيلين ليصوروهم فى الفنادق التي يقطنون بها. زار عبد الدايم جامعة السوربون، رأى جمعا من الطلاب والطالبات يتبادلون القبلات، يتلامسون بالأيدي، وتتعانق الأذرع، لم يلفت ذلك نظر أحد، فلم يلتفت إليهم زميل أو زائر فهذا لا يعني شيئا سوى الصداقة البريئة والزمالة الدائمة. سمع صوت فتاة تناديه باسمه ولغته العربية د/ عبد الدايم، اعترت الدهشة لسماع اسمه ولقبه، رأى فتاة ملامحها شرقية تهرول إليه تحمل على وجهها ابتسامة راضية.
