ليس كالأطفال أحد يستطيع أن يبعث في نفس الأم "طمأنينة قلب" العنوان الذي اختارته الكاتبة سارة آل شريم لروايتها هذه، كي تطرح سؤال الطفولة من داخل النص الروائي وتتناول موضوعاً على غاية من الأهمية وهو التحرش الجنسي للأطفال أو سفاح القربى. لذلك تُولي الكاتبة أهمية للطب النفسي للبحث عن دور مراحل الطفولة في مسار المراحل الأخرى للفرد وانعكاس ذلك على سلوكه. فالأب الذي يحمل رواسب معيّنة في اللاوعي من مرحلة الطفولة يُمكن أن يُفسَّر سلوكه تجاه طفلته.
الرواية تُعنى بالمشكلات الأسريَّة وأبعادها النفسية على الأولاد في المجتمعات العربية؛ فـ "عائشة" بطلة الرواية تعيش بين أم قاسية تقليدية وأب حنون ومنفتح. الأم تمنع الفتاة من هوايتها في قراءة الكتب وتختار لها زواجاً تقليدياً بعد إكمالها دراستها الجامعية. والأب يقف على الحياد ويترك قرار الزواج لابنته، الذي يتبيّن فيما بعد أنَّه خاطئاً. أما الابنة عائشة فتبدو امرأة على غاية من الوعي والعلم والثقافة لجأت إلى الطب النفسي وعرفت كيف تُحافظ على أطفالها وتُعالج مشكلاتها بمفردها. لذلك يُمكن اعتبار رواية "طمأنينة قلب" من الروايات التي انتصرت للمرأة ولموقفها في المجتمع العربي.
من أجواء الرواية نقرأ: "نعم، غالية فقدت الأمان والطمأنينة في المنزل الأول، في المنزل الوحيد الذي يجب أن يكون هو مصدر أمانها وطمأنينتها، منزل والدها الذي يُفترض أن يكون سندها وظهرها، والدها الذي هدم جزءاً من طفولتها. صدقني يوسف، سيحرّم عليك رؤيتنا جميعاً حتى يكبرا ويقررا بنفسيهما أن يرياك، لن أشوّه سمعتك في أبصارهما لأني لست سيئة، ولكنني سأجعل ذكرك معدوماً ووجودك كعدمه في حياتنا. لا ينقصني شيء لأكون لهما الأم والأب، سأشتري شقة وأسكن فيها أنا وملاكاي الاثنان. الحمد لله أني لم أسمع كلامك وتركت عملي لأن حاجته الآن ظهرت، سأربّي طمأنينة قلبيّ الاثنين كما يجب".
