يتيح لنا هذا الكتاب الإطلاع على وجهات نظر الآخر في الاسلام.. كديانة وعقيدة ومنهج ورسول " صلى الله عليه وسلم" والاخر هنا المقصود به هو الغرب متمثلا ف يالمستشرقين، وخاصة من آثر إتنابع منهج موضوعي بعيدا عن التعصب والتحيز. فهذا الكتاب هو دراسة قدمها المستشرق الألماني "هيربرت بوسه" يتناول فيها العلاقة بين الإسلام واليهودية والمسيحية كديانات سماوية توحيدية ، وذلك في خمسة فصول تناول أولها الوضع الديني في شبة الجزيرة العربية حتى عصر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ، وهو ما يتضح فيه تضاؤل الوجود المسيحي واليهودي وإنعزال هذا الاقليم عما حوله وبقاء الحنيفية كما هى فيه. ام الفصل الثاني فيستعرض المؤلف فيه نظرة الإسلام لأهلل الكتاب من نصارى ويهود.. ذاكرا آثام اليهود في هذا المقام ، لينتقل في الفصل الثالث إلى روايات العهد القديم .. ثم في الرابع روايات العهد الجديد وذلك في عدة مسائل مثل خلق الإنسان والطوفان وبعض أخبار وقصص الأنبياء مع مضاهاتها بالوارد في النص القرآني الكريم.. اما الفصل الخامس يرجع فيه المؤلف أدراجه إلى العصر الحاضر ، ليناقش الوضع الراهن والعلاقة بين الإسلام وأوربا ناصحا بتعلية الحوار وإعتباره الحل الأمثل بدلا من الدعوة والتنصير ، مع ذكره لشروط ذلك الحوار وموضوعاته التى تبتعد عن المعتقدات وتمتد للعلاقات الانسانية . من الجدير بالذكر أن المؤلف في دراسته ومحاولته البحث عن علاقة التأثير والتأثر بين الديانات الثلاث إلتزام الخط الموضوعي إلا أنه لا يمكن إنكار إنه يجيد عن ذلك في بعض المواضع التى أشار اليها الأستاذ ط أحمد محمود هويدي" مترجم هذا العمل.
