من خلال قراءتي لرسالة الملائكة، وجدت فيها الكثير من النصوص تتعلق باللهجات العربية، ولكنها ليست معزوة إلى أصحابها من القبائل العربية، فحاولت قراءة الرسالة أكثر من مرة، واستخرجت منها هذه النصوص، وتوقفت معها طويلًا أتاملها وأقارنها بما هو وارد في اللهجات العربية عن العرب، فوجدتها تتعلق بالدراسة الصوتية للهجات، ومع أن هناك دراسات كثيرة في مجال اللهجات تنوعت مصادرها وتعددت، ولكن "رسالة الملائكة" لم ترد ضمن مصادر هذه الدراسات اللهجية، ولعل السبب في ذلك عدم تصريح أبي العلاء بهذه الظواهر اللهجية، ولم يصرح بأنها لهجات واردة عن العرب إلا في القليل النادر. ومما دفعني إلى الكتابة في هذا البحث ثقافة أبي العلاء الواسعة والمتنوعة، وبراعته في البحث والتحليل، ونقده للعلماء وأئمة اللغة، واعتداده برأيه في بعض المسائل.
واقتضت طبيعة البحث أن يأتي في مقدمة وسبعة مباحث وخاتمة. فالمقدمة، تحدثت فيها عن موضوع البحث، وقيمة الكتاب ومادته العلمية، وسبب اختيار، وخطته، ومنهجه.
والمبحث الأول: الإبدال، وقد قسمته إلى قسمين: الأول: الإبدال في الصوامت، عالجت فيه الإبدال في الحروف الصامته، ثم إبدال حروف العلة همزة، وأخيرًا قلب حروف العلة بعضها إلى بعض. الثاني: الإبدال في الصوامت، وذلك في الأفعال والأسماء.
والمبحث الثاني: الإمالة، والمبحث الثالث: مطل الحركات، ثم بعد ذلك نسبة هذه الظاهرة إلى قبائلها، والمبحث الرابع: الحذف، تحدثت عن الحذف الهمزة، وحذف الجزء الأخير من الكلمة، ثم عن حذف المعتل، والمبحث الخامس: الفك والإدغام، والمبحث السادس: الوقف، تحدثت عن الوقف بالتنوين على القوافي، والمبحث السابع: القلب المكاني، أما الخاتمة، فقد تضمنت الحقائق التي أكدتها الدراسة، والنتائج التي توصلت إليها، والتوصيات التي أوصى بها.
