يقدّم الكتاب شرحاً وافياً لنموذج البتريمونيالية الجديدة، سواء إطاره النظري أو في تطبيقاته في مختلف مناطق العالم؛ ثم يتوسع بدراسة الحالة الأردنية، التي تمثّل أحد النماذج العربية للأنظمة البتريمونيالية الجديدة التي تحاول أن تتمظهر بالليبرالية والانفتاح حيناً وبالتراثية والمحافظة أحياناً، كل ذلك بهدف الحفاظ على جوهر النظام القائم.
يركّز البحث على طبيعة النظام السياسي في الأردن، محاولاً إعادة تفسير الظواهر السياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية في المجتمع والدولة فيه، من خلال دراسة مرتكزات النظام الأردني في شرعيته وعلاقاته وأصول تركيبه وفق منهجية تاريخية تعرض تسلسل الأحداث، إلى جانب المنهجية التحليلية التي تفسّر هذه الأحداث وتربطها بمفاهيم النظام البريمونيالي الجديد.
