يتناول هذا الكتاب موضوع "الرحلة" والكتب التى ألفت في هذا الإطار، منذ الرحلة التى دونها "أبن جبير" ومن أتى بعده من الرحالة العرب ، الذين سجلوا رحلاتهم في أسلوب أدبي نثري ، حتى بعض الرحلات التى كتبت في السبعينيات والثمانينيات من هذا القرن. ولا ينحصر الخيط الأساسي في حر المؤلفات ، أو تتبع الكتب ، ولكنه يعرف باتجاهات الرحلة وابعادها وموضوعاتها واختلاف أساليب تناول الكتاب للأشخاص والأماكن والأحداث ، وما شابه ذلك ، كما أنه يحدد خطوات تطور هذا اللون من الكتابة : شكلا وموضوعا، لغة ورؤية . وقد وقف عند عدد لا بأس به من الكتابات التى تمثل علامات بارزة في هذا اللون من الكتابة. وأشار إلى عناوين كثيرة لرحلات لم يقف عندها ، لكنه لأول مرة يتعامل مع رحلات أحمد حسين ، أحمد محمد حسنين د. حسين فوزي ، محمود تيمور ، مصطفى محمود ، أنيس منصور ، صبري موسى ، محمود السعدني ، خيري شلبي ، وغيرهم بعد أن تعامل مع ما حفل به تراثنا العربي القديم من انتاج في هذا الميدان .
