يسعى هذا المشروع الوطني إلهام إلى توثيق ذاكرة الحكاية الشعبيّة البحرينيّة قبل إندثارها، ولأجل أن تكون حاضرةً لأجيال سعينا إلى بذل جهد جماعي لإنعاش ذاكرة الحكاية الشعبيّة في جزء عزيز من الوطن العربي، تمهيداً لدراستها دراسة أكاديميّة منهجيّة معمقة.
إذ يسعى هذا المشروع الوطنيّ كذلك إلى الحفاظ على الهوية البحرينيّة وإبرازها بتنوعاتها وإختلافاتها، وهي سمة هذا المجتمع المتسامح المتعايش مع أطياف متنوعة في أديانها ومذاهبها وعرقياتها الإثنيّة منذ أقدم العصور، وللحكاية الشعبيّة دور كبير في إبراز هذه التنوّعات الخلاّقة والمساعدة في تعزيز إنتماء هذه الجماعات المختلفة إلى المواطنة والهوية.
اشتغل في هذا المشروع الوطنيّ مائة جامع وجامعة من طلاب قسم اللغة العربيّة بجامعة البحرين على مدى أكثر من عشر سنوات، وجامعة البحرين من أوائل الجامعات العربيّة تنبهاً إلى تدريس مساق "الأدب الشعبيّ" لطلاب قسم اللغة العربيّة بكلية الآداب، ويُعد هذا الجمع أكبر مجموع حكائيّ شعبيّ على مستوى الوطن العربي يُنجز حتى الآن.
